A couple of years ago my good friend Celia started a LinkedIn post with this question: What did you love to do when you were ten and do you still get chance to do it? This evening I could answer that second question with a resounding ‘Yes!’. Just before my 10th birthday, my good friend Adele and I put on a concert in our dining room in aid of the Mayor of Oldham’s Charity. Much to our surprise (and to my Mum’s horror, as we were about to have a new carpet fitted…) he and the Mayoress accepted our invitation and came along. I think we raised £30, which was quite good going in 1982…

Tonight’s walk was through a festively-lit York to the beautiful Mansion House where I sang carols with the Sonora Quartet at a fundraising event in aid of the Lord Mayor of York’s Charities – York Women’s Counselling Service and SNAPPY. Pleased to say we raised more than £30 this time… and glad to make a tuneful contribution to two brilliant local causes.
