See how they run…

This Sunday saw a first for our family as my husband took part in the Yorkshire Marathon Relay. His team of rail industry colleagues were, appropriately enough, raising funds for Railway Children a charity supporting children living on the streets both in the UK and abroad. As our house was surrounded by the marathon route on all sides, my daughter and I had no choice but to walk to find a good viewing position and cheer the runners on. We didn’t walk quite as far as my husband ran, but we did get a great spot near the 22-mile mark. We saw the fastest of the elite runners heading for the final stretch as well as those taking on the 10-mile option, many in support of causes with strong personal connections.
The range of charities represented was vast – from national ‘big names’ to small, specialist charities for whom the sponsorship raised by just a few runners will make a big impact. Very proud of my husband, and pleased to have experienced the brilliant atmosphere, but I’ll be sticking to walking for the time being…
